Getting Your Home Ready for Your DNC Tenants
Renting your home out to DNC 2012 attendies is exciting and can be a bit stressful. You will want to make sure everything is ready to go well in advance. Your DNC 2012 tenants will expect certain things and we recommend you consider what you would expect if you were renting a Beach or Mountain home for a week. Remember you don’t want to be trying to do all these things the last week before the DNC 2012 Convention.
Here are some tips to make your DNC 2012 guest stay pleasurable and your rental profitable.
Deep Clean:
We recommend you have your home cleaned thoroughly before your tenants arrive.
- Change all air filters.
- Remove excess kitchen clutter
- Clean out your refrigerator and freezer. Many guests will want to store their own groceries.
- Vacuum your drapes and under your sofa cushions, and furniture too!
- Make sure your home smells clean but not chemically or perfumed. Many people are allergic to air fresheners so limit their use.
Yard Maintenance:
Make sure your yard is well maintained. Although many DNC conventioneers and attendees will not be spending a lot of time in your yard you will want it to look nice and well kept.
Personal Belongings:
We recommend you box up and remove any valuable or personal belongings. You may want to get boxes and simply box up your nightstand, drawers, and closet items. Seal the boxes and relocate them to the attic, or similar spot for the duration of your guests visit.
If you have a large closet or two it may be worthwhile to create an “Owners Closet” and place a lock on these doors. This way you can lock up your stuff… without having to move it out of the house.
You also might consider locking an entire room. For example if you have a 4 bedroom house, you may want to advertise it as a 3 bedroom and lock the fourth bedroom to store your personal belongings.
Leave Instructions:
Provide instructions for your remote controls if they are not self-explanatory. (This is an important tip.) Consider printing out a channel guide for your cable or satellite service.
Provide instructions for any appliances that are not easy to use.
Keys
If you have a large home you may have a group of DNC 2012 Charlotte guest staying in your home. To prevent lost keys, or lock outs we recommend that you get a number of keys made. We also suggest you put a lock box on your house with a spare key and provide the code to your tenants. (Either before they call you with a problem or after – as you prefer) This may save a trip by the locksmith to your home.
After the DNC is over you should have your locks re-keyed for your own peace of mind.
Lockboxes: You can purchase push button or combo lock boxes at most hardware or home improvement stores. They cost about $30 and can be attached to a railing or doorknob. You can set the combination to be what ever you like.
Gas tanks, etc. If you have a gas grill make sure the tank has enough gas in it for a few cook outs. If you are providing a charcoal grill we recommend you leave some supplies for that also.
Hot Tubs and Pools: We recommend you leave detailed instructions on the operation of these amenities. If you have a pool maintenance person give them notice that you will be having guests and you will want to have the pool ready to go for them. You should also leave numbers for your providers so the DNC guest will have someone to call if they have trouble.
